Canton Fair 2026 Dates

FirstTimeChinaGuide

Short answer: the 140th Canton Fair runs in three phases at the same venue in Guangzhou. Phase 1, Advanced Manufacturing, is 15 to 19 October 2026. Phase 2, Quality Home Life, is 23 to 27 October 2026. Phase 3, Better Life, is 31 October to 4 November 2026. Each phase is five days, the venue closes for three days between them, and the whole run covers 15 exhibition days inside a 21 day window.

Those dates were read off the organiser’s own site on 30 October 2026, not from a news summary. That matters more than it sounds: the three phase dates get copied between travel blogs for years after they change, and a hotel booked against a stale calendar is the expensive version of this mistake.

The three phases, as the organiser publishes them

Phase Theme Dates Exhibition days
Phase 1 Advanced Manufacturing 15 to 19 October 2026 5
Phase 2 Quality Home Life 23 to 27 October 2026 5
Phase 3 Better Life 31 October to 4 November 2026 5

The venue is the same for all three: the China Import and Export Fair Exhibition Hall, No. 382 Yuejiang Zhong Road, Guangzhou. The fair spreads 13 product categories across 54 exhibition sections, and which of those sections open depends on the phase, which is why the phase names read like themes rather than categories.

The two gaps nobody plans for

Between the phases the halls close and the city does not. The first gap is 20 to 22 October, three days. The second is 28 to 30 October, also three days. Add those to the phase dates and you get a 21 day window from 15 October to 4 November, of which only 15 days have a fair running.

Two practical consequences. If you are flying in for a specific phase, an arrival in a gap day means a hotel bill with nothing to do at the venue, so check which side of a gap your flight lands on before you fix the dates. And if you are in Guangzhou for something else entirely, the gap days are the cheapest hotel nights in the whole three weeks, because a few hundred thousand buyers have just left and the next wave has not arrived.

What each phase actually covers

Phase 1, Advanced Manufacturing, is the industrial end: electronics and appliances, manufacturing equipment, vehicles and two wheelers, light and electrical products, hardware and tools. This is the phase where the halls feel like a supply chain rather than a shop.

Phase 2, Quality Home Life, moves to the consumer side of the house: housewares, gifts and decorations, building materials and furniture, garden products. It is the phase most often described as the one where a visitor with a design or retail interest gets the most out of a single day.

Phase 3, Better Life, is the last stretch: toys, children and baby products, fashion, home textiles, stationery, health and recreation, plus the import section and the cross border e-commerce zone. It is also the shortest walk from the tourist side of Guangzhou, because by then the halls are full of things a normal person can actually buy.

Getting in: a badge, not a ticket

The fair is not an expo you buy a day ticket to. Access runs through an overseas buyer badge, and the organiser’s own site routes you through pre-registration, an invitation application or a badge application before you get near the gate. The paperwork is done online in advance, and there is a separate guide for accompanying personnel of overseas buyers, which tells you that the badge is issued per person and not per company.

The organiser publishes a 2026 Attendance Guide for Overseas Buyers, released on 30 July 2026, in ten languages including English, Spanish, French, German, Arabic and Russian. If you are going for business, that document is the one to read before this page, because it covers the things that change year to year and this page does not: booth layouts, badge collection points and the on site service desks.

What the fair does to the rest of your trip

For three weeks in October and November, Guangzhou stops being a normal city to book a room in. The pressure lands hardest on Haizhu, the district the venue sits in, and it spreads outward along the metro lines from there. If your dates overlap a phase, book earlier than you would for any other Chinese city, and expect the mid range to move more than the top end.

The other thing that moves is the airport. Baiyun’s domestic operations shifted terminals in May 2026, so a taxi driver’s advice from an older trip may no longer apply, and the terminal letter on your ticket is worth checking the night before rather than at the kerb. Both of those are covered in more detail on the Guangzhou travel guide, which also has the current metro fares and the train times to Hong Kong if you are tacking a few days on at the end.

If you are not a buyer

Then the honest answer is that the fair is not an attraction. The halls are a working trade venue, access is gated by a buyer badge, and the parts a tourist would enjoy are the parts that exist outside the gates: the food, the river and the old city, all of which are busier and more expensive during the three weeks and unchanged the rest of the year.

The one reason a non-buyer should care about these dates is avoidance. If you want the tower, the teahouses and the Chen Clan Academy without a queue, the phase weeks are the wrong weeks, and the gap days are the right ones.

Next year’s dates

The 141st session, the spring 2027 fair, had not published its dates on the organiser’s site on 30 October 2026, so this page does not carry them. What can be said without inventing anything is the shape: the fair has run as three five day phases with three day gaps for years, and the spring session sits in the first half of the year while the autumn one sits in the second. Treat any specific 2027 date you read elsewhere as unconfirmed until it appears on cantonfair.org.cn.

What I did not check

I did not read the 2026 Attendance Guide PDF, because the download on the organiser’s site is served by script and I could not pull the file. I did not verify which of the 54 exhibition sections belongs to which phase beyond the phase themes themselves, so the phase descriptions above stay at the theme level rather than listing sections. I did not check hotel rates for any of the three weeks, which is why this page tells you they move instead of quoting a number. And I did not confirm the spring 2027 dates, because they are not published.

Sources

Gap days, exhibition day totals and the 21 day window are arithmetic on the published dates, not separate sources. Where this page says something is a pattern rather than a published fact, it says so in the sentence.
